BREAST REDUCTION

Reduction mammoplasty or breast reduction is a surgical procedure that reduces the volume of the breasts, whereby they are lifted and brought to a more beautiful position.

Large breasts sometimes represent a serious health and functional problem because they strain the spine and back. A breast reduction procedure involves the removal of excess skin and breast tissue to shape the breasts and make them proportional in size and shape to the rest of the body. Breast reduction methods range from a minimally invasive approach – liposuction to complicated surgical corrections for extremely large breasts.

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and it lasts two to three hours. There are several breast reduction techniques, and the decision about the most appropriate one depends mostly on the size of the breasts and the distance of the nipples from the jugular furrow.

Gynecomastia is a benign enlargement of male breasts that occurs as a result of hypertrophy or enlargement of the glandular parenchyma of the breast and the accumulation of subcutaneous fatty tissue deposits. Statistically, one out of three men under the age of 40 suffers from some degree of gynecomastia, and almost half of men over the age of fifty have enlarged breasts.

Male breast reduction surgery is performed under general anesthesia and it lasts about two hours.
